[SOLVED] TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Alex-6
This post was updated on .
Hi,

Using the same config I had on TS-5.1 doesn't work anymore for an ica session, I can only see a mouse cursor with a black background.

If I connect manually using the interface of "citrix receiver", or open an "ica_wfc session type, it works, but asks some informations like server address...But this parameter is supposed to be already set in my config...This was working with TS-5.1 and doesn't work anymore with TS-5.2...

Any idea what I should change for it to work again like in 5.1 ?

Here are my build.conf and my thinstation.conf.buildtime

EDIT : On a running client, the appsrv.ini [WFClient] is empty, which seems to be a problem...

Citrix 13 isn't backward compatible with Citrix 12 and a solution for pre-configuring Citrix 13 hasn't been submitted for TS 5.2 yet.
You can probably configure it how you want and capture the .ICAclient directory that's created under your home.

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Actually, the current working set up there is TS-5.1 with ica-13 client.

I'm trying to reproduce the same with TS-5.2 with ica-13 too with no success...

Even taking the appsrv.ini, wfclient.ini from the working client (with image made with 5.1) and trying to move them to 5.2 doesn't work...

I didn't find any clue in any logs (from /var/log/boot and /var/run/app/*)...

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

If you have Citrix 13 configurable in TS 5.1, you probably downloaded something from someone on this list, as the initialization code is mostly unchanged so far between TS 5.1 and TS 5.2 from GIT. Perhaps copying the ica package between the two would work?

appsrv.ini and wfclient.ini are mostly unused by Citrix 13's selfservice client. The bulk of the configuration is stored in XML files under .ICAClient/cache such as Stores/StoreCache.ctx.

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

This post was updated on .
I've tried the solution of the .ctx files in the Stores directory with no success...

The error is still the name : it fails to contact the server for the app which is set in ICA_APPLICATION_SET...

The weird thing : If I change that application set to another one, also existing on the server, I have a different error... "impossible to connect to server, the server explorer command contains an invalid parameter"

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Alex-6
In fact, there is a working configuration here with TS-5.1 using pxe.
My "job" is to make some clients work here with TS-5.2 using iso instead.

Any idea of how I could export the working config form a (working) running TS-5.1 ?

I thought about copying the /etc/thinstation.defaults but it doesn't seem to be enough...

Also it's using some files on the network form libsquash type...Any idea of how I could "unsquash" it to take files from it ? (or any other suggestion would be welcomed)

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Alex-6
Ok, now I understand a bit better the concepts : libsquash is for fastboot and netfile for loading config files over the nework (TFTP or other method)

I succeeded making a working ISO with 5.1 by disabling fastboot and netfile.

The exact same configuration transposed on 5.2 doesn't work...Still the error about can't solve the server adress...Using IP adresse instead doesn't solve the problem

The only thing working with 5.2 is connecting using an ica_wfc session and adding the URL manually after the liscence accept.
I've also tried using the command found in ps aux from the working 5.1 client using wfica and the corresponding arguments (- WI server_url etc) with no success

What could have changed beetweem 5.1 and 5.2 that makes everything fail ?

I've tried to copy (using tar to preserve symlinks) the package/ica folder from 5.1 to 5.2 with same kind of error

The ICA_STORE_URL is a xml file and I discovered xerces-c is a XML parser
Maybe a change has been made there that make everything fail...

In both case we're using ica-13.0 (with 5.1 and 5.2)

Any informations about any changes beetweem 5.1 and 5.2 about ica or any dependencies / component linked would be really helpfull

Here is the /etc/thinstation.defaults coming from a working 5.1 client connected to a session :

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Whatever you have for your ica package in 5.1 did not come from Thinstation. Where did you get it from or whose fork are you cloning? There is no ICA_STORE_URL that I can find anywhere in the Thinstation repository. I have checked both 5.1-Stable and 5.2-Stable and there isn't any support for writing the XML file necessary for what you want in packages/ica/build/extra/etc/init.d/ica.init.

As of Tuesday, I see a commit in master (which is basically the next 5.2) which does write the file that you want. If you set the server parameter for your ICA session to the full https:// link then it will recognize it as something to write to the XML file rather than to appsrv.ini. It has to point to something specific or it doesn't work.

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Alex-6
Sorry I made a mistake it was "ICA_STOREURL"

The idea isn't to write a XML file but to read it from the server, which then take care about the load-balancing and send to a server.

Well I remember they told me they modified some files like ica.init...They would maybe have write something that support that syntax ? It's really weird...

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Alex-6
Oh, true they have ICA_STOREURL in their ica.init and it's not on the 5.2

This is their file, I'm not good at scripting so I don't understand that script :

ica.init

The only thing I understand is that a variable $ICA_STOREURL is used but is not defined here...I'll try to look if they added it somewhere like ica.function or something like that to define it ....

In reply to this post by Michael K-2
Oh, and actually I'm pretty sure the ica client support reading XML file as on a ts-5.2 (with nothing modified) you can connect manually using an ica_wfc session to a server using a config.xml file and it works

I'm investigating on where that variable ICA_STOREURL comes from, it seems it's used by "storebrowse" (in utils) on their modified scripts

Re: TS-5.2 issues with ICA

Alex-6
ok, I've found what's happening : the modified ica.init uses the storebrowse (command which is a symlink in /usr/bin/ to /opt/.../util/storebrowse) and using parameters like ICA_STOREURL

Actually I succeeded connecting in 5.2 manually using the following command (in .../util) :

./storebrowse -D <DOMAINNAME> -L <APPNAME> <SERVER_URL_TO_XML_FILE>

And it works even on a server with a loadbalancing system using several servers.

Now I only have to automate this with scripting, I can consider my issues about ICA solved.

Thx for your help !
