Re: Wireless Problem

Don Cupp
The build process hi-lights a condition in linux, where modules ask for more firmwares then they really need.

I think you might just be missing wpa_supplicant. Go through build.conf and make sure you have packages wireless and wpa_supplicant enabled. Also make sure that param allfirmware is true.

Goal: To make a universal USB Drive that can boot on any of our old laptops..
in our office 1. automatically connecting to the Domain WIFI and 2.
automatically go into the RDP to the username and password screen.

What I have done so far... Running the Laptop with the Live CD everything
works fine... I can click the RDP Icon and get into the server (wired or
wireless).. now I used my virtual machine and created a perfect build that
automatically goes into the RPD session at boot... (Internet is being
bridged with mine **Hardwired) Now on the Laptop I try to boot with the USB
and it doesn't connect... reason be it is not sensing the wireless or wired
network card. Now I took the Live CD Build files.. and built it on the USB..
it still doesn't see the network cards...... When I run the build with all
modules.. the wired connection works finally.. but the wireless is still not
working. <--- all on the old HP Compaq nc8430 Laptop...

Now looking at the logs of the build I noticed a lot of firmware and modules
not found..

examples (this list is a lot bigger):
Error, Firmware ctefx.bin not found
adding extra module firmware for snd-cs46xx.ko
Error, Firmware cwcdma not found
Error, Firmware cwcbinhack not found

looking at some of these firmware names... they are for drivers.. and some
are wireless drivers. I have tried this in version 5.4, 5.2, and 6.0 and I
have the same problem with firmware not found. I have tried to built this
using the dev station and also Mint. At this point I am stuck. I can't
believe I would be the only person who ran into this problem. So if anyone
has any idea or input it would be much thanks.

I'm thinking that there is a build problem not pointing to the firmware &
modules properly... but I tried multiply versions to test it.. All I want is
thinstation to see my wireless card... like it does with the live CD

Thank you!

Re: Wireless Problem

Don Cupp
Try making sure all your firmware ports are built and installed. Firmwares are not distributed with TS anymore, but the ports will download them when built. On install, ts offers to build them for you.
for port in `ls /ts/ports/binary-core`; do
    prt-get install $port
done

As for my build this is what I have:  using --allmodules  and I'm only
seeing the hard wire network.. the wireless one is stating there is no
firmware for the wireless.

Any Suggestions?

What Don sent you was a script to install all ports on /ts/ports/binary-core. You must either put the script in a proper .sh file, or modify it to be run on a single line. for example:

for port in `ls /ts/ports/binary-core`; do prt-get install $port; done

Re: Wireless Problem

Don Cupp
The whole "for port; do;done" line needs to be copied to the command line. not just the middle "ls " part.
