Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

Alex-6
Hi,

I'm trying to make a wireless card using iwl3945 work but it seems some missing modules/firmwares are responsible of this :

Error, Firmware riptide.hex not found

A "prt-get update firmware*" didn't help.

This interface was working with a version from git beetweem one week ago and one month...Sadly I don't have that version anymore...

About the modules there is something very strange :  snd_intel8x0 is not found but a make menuconfig in the 3.14.9TS_SMP directory show this module activated [m]

Re: Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

Don Cupp
You have mixed up _ and -.

It's
intel-agp not intel_agp
snd-intel8x0 not snd_intel8x0

Best,
Don Cupp

Re: Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

Well this seem to be more like a mistake in the build script :

[root@TS_chroot]/usr/src/kernels/3.14.9TS_SMP/build# grep SND_INTEL .config
CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0=m
CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0M=m

and intel_agp was agp_intel :

[root@TS_chroot]/usr/src/kernels/3.14.9TS_SMP/build# grep AGP_INTEL .config
CONFIG_AGP_INTEL=m

Module names always use a _

Re: Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

Don Cupp
No they don't.

Modules are all over the place with _ and - spacing.
try find /lib/modules -name \*-\*.\* &
find /lib/modules -name \*_\*.\*

Re: Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

Hum interesting it seems some compiled modules change their name from "_" to "-", I never noticed that before.

Well thanks now I know where to look to have the exact names (which means not in lsmod and not in make menuconfig but in /lib/modules)

Re: Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

Alex-6
Well it seems my wireless problems don't come from driver/firmware problem...

I tried both wpa_supplicant and network manager (separately) and i can only connect to WEP network, WPA just fail with an error : nl80211 set_key failed no such file or directory

I tried with both nl80211 and wext...

Re: Wireless problems due to missing modules/firmwares

I made a few tests :
- TS5.1 : WIRELESS_WPAKEY doesn't connect to a wpa network
             using wpa_supplicant (0.7.3) manually connects to an AP but doesn't recieve any ip address
             using udchp -i wlan0 send a message as if a lease occured and an ip address was given but nothing appears in ifconfig (no ip address agined)
             network manager can connect successfully

- TS5.2 : WIRELESS_WPAKEY doesn't connect to a wpa network
            using wpa_supplicant (0.7.3) and the new version (I think 2.3) manually makes the wlan0 interface to crash with an error "wpa failed to set ptk to the driver" which seems to come from the kernel (or a module from it)
            network manager never stop connecting/disconnecting very fast

Everytime I used network-manager I disabled autonet and everytime I used wpa_supplicant, I disabled network-manager.
I tried with wext driver and nl80211 and with several wireless interfaces on several laptops
